475 m² Residential Project in Rokiškis, Lithuania | Interior Design – Vaizu Studio

The Amber Lake project is a carefully and thoughtfully designed log house interior that brings together the American lake house style with subtle Mediterranean design influences. When creating this 475 m² home in Rokiškis, Vaizu Studio aimed not only to refresh the spaces, but also to preserve the authentic spirit of log architecture, enriching it with functionality, warmth, and contemporary details.

Challenges of a Log House: Modernizing Without Demolition
One of the biggest challenges of this project was the log construction itself, which limited electrical installations and the placement of certain elements. The clients wanted to preserve parts of the original interior - radiators, structural elements, and clinker finishes - so creative solutions were required to integrate them into the new design. Instead of complex demolition work, a much more sustainable approach was chosen: these elements were concealed behind custom-designed wooden slats and repainted to fully blend into the home’s overall aesthetic.
These solutions allowed the original character of the log house to be preserved while giving the interior a sense of cohesion and visual calm. This is especially important for the lake house style, where natural materials and a cozy connection to the surroundings are key.

Design Direction: American Lake House with Mediterranean Accents The American lake house interior is defined by warm coziness, natural materials, and a slightly rustic aesthetic. It is not a luxurious or overly decorative style, but rather one that feels comfortable, relaxed, and livable. This atmosphere was emphasized through natural wood, more substantial furniture pieces, a soft neutral color palette, and layered lighting.
To introduce a sense of lightness, subtle Mediterranean elements were woven into the interior: earthy tones, natural stone textures, soft surfaces, and decor inspired by warmer climates. This combination added both elegance and a vacation-like feeling to the spaces - exactly what the homeowners were hoping for.
Spatial Transformations: More Function, More Comfort
One of the most significant changes was the shared kitchen and living area. The main kitchen was relocated next to the living room, creating a practical, logical, and visually harmonious everyday space. Meanwhile, the large commercial kitchen remained in the house but was concealed behind hidden doors - maintaining its functionality without disrupting the overall aesthetic.
In the living room, the focal point became a striking 2.5-meter-diameter light fixture created from the client’s hunting trophies. It visually bridges the character of the log house with modern design and serves as the emotional centerpiece of the entire interior.
The bedrooms, while compact due to structural limitations, were designed to be functional as much as possible. Particular attention was given to layered lighting and furniture ergonomics, ensuring the spaces feel well-proportioned, cozy, and practical.
The bathrooms remained in their original locations but were completely renovated. New tiles, modern LED lighting, and a minimalist expression transformed these areas into contemporary spaces that still harmonize with the overall mood of the house.
The Revival of the SPA Zone
One of the most striking transformations took place in the SPA area. Previously underused and lacking a clear purpose, this space was redesigned into a cozy relaxation zone with a bar, a bio fireplace, and a TV. It has become a true retreat within the home, where family and guests can unwind, socialize, or simply enjoy the view of the lake.
Final Result The Amber Lake interior is a blend of respect for tradition and a modern approach. The house has retained its natural, countryside character while being enhanced with functional, aesthetic solutions that create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The combination of American lake house style and Mediterranean accents creates a place that naturally invites you to return, relax, and truly live.
