219 m² Vacation Home Project in Molėtai, Lithuania | Interior Design – Vaizu Studio

The “A Thousand Lakes” House is a newly built vacation home located directly on the shore of a lake in one of Lithuania’s most scenic regions – Molėtai. Surrounded by nature and untouched by nearby neighbors, this 219 m² home was designed as a peaceful escape from city life, a place where family members can slow down, reconnect, and enjoy time together in a calm, natural setting.
Because this is not a permanent residence, the design process was freed from many typical constraints such as extensive storage requirements. Instead, the focus shifted toward atmosphere, spatial comfort, and emotional value. The goal was not simply to design a house, but to create a lakeside interior that feels warm, personal, and timeless.

Interior concept: Midwestern American style with eclectic character
The foundation of this project is Midwestern American interior design, complemented by subtle eclectic elements. Midwestern style is known for its warmth, practicality, and lived-in comfort. It relies on natural materials, soft color palettes, and a welcoming atmosphere rather than strict design rules or sharp minimalism.
In this home, that approach was especially important, as the family wanted to integrate existing furniture and objects collected during travels around the world. These personal items became an essential part of the interior story. By blending them with the Midwestern style, Vaizu Studio created a cohesive yet relaxed environment where old and new elements coexist naturally.
This combination also makes the interior highly adaptable. As the family continues to travel and collect art or furniture, new pieces can be easily introduced without disrupting the overall design language — a key advantage of both Midwestern and eclectic interior styles.

Space, light, and a strong connection to nature
Given the home’s exceptional lakeside location, maintaining a sense of openness inside was just as important as the view outside. The interior layout emphasizes spaciousness, fluid movement, and visual continuity between zones, allowing the house to feel light and uncluttered.
A strong connection to nature is reinforced through material choices used throughout the home. Wood plays a central role, appearing in different forms in nearly every space — from parquet flooring and doors to ceiling fans, stair railings, and exposed structural beams in the living area. These wooden elements are complemented by a stone wall, adding texture and grounding the interior in natural, tactile surfaces.
Together, these materials create an atmosphere that feels calm, authentic, and deeply connected to the surrounding landscape, making the interior feel like a natural extension of the lakeside environment.
A conscious design choice: a living room without a TV One of the most intentional decisions in this project was to exclude a television from the living room. Since the family lives in different parts of the world and spends limited time together in this house, the living area was designed to encourage conversation, shared activities, and presence.
The absence of a TV shifts attention toward human interaction, whether that means long conversations, quiet reading, or simply enjoying the view of the lake. For practicality, a television was placed in the home office, ensuring comfort without compromising the main social space.
Subtle color accents and refined eclectic details To prevent the interior from feeling overly neutral, carefully chosen color accents were introduced. The two bathrooms were designed with distinct identities — one featuring soft blue tones, the other green — both enhanced by natural materials and integrated LED lighting. These spaces add character while remaining cohesive with the rest of the home.
Across the interior, small colorful details appear in artwork and decor, reinforcing the eclectic side of the design. These elements bring warmth and individuality, making the home feel lived-in rather than styled.
A home shaped by place, people, and purpose The “A Thousand Lakes” House is more than a Midwestern-style interior in Lithuania — it is a thoughtful response to its location, the lifestyle of its owners, and the desire to create meaningful moments together. Designed by Vaizu Studio, this lakeside vacation home balances comfort, natural materials, and personal history to form an interior that feels both grounded and inviting.
It is a place to pause, breathe, and experience the quiet beauty of life by the lake.
